Fabulous Food, World Famous Wine, and Astounding Architecture

Piedmont, Italy's second largest region, and arguably its most elegant, famed for its food, fine wine and pretty pastoral landscape. A region that bordes France and Switzerland, and sits at the foot of the Alps. It’s known for sophisticated cuisine and fine wines such as Barolo. Turin, the capital, has abundant baroque architecture and the monumental landmark Mole Antonelliana, with its soaring spire.

Tour Itinerary

Day 01 - Arrival

Arrive in Italy, with tranfers to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink upon arrival.

Day 02 - Monferrato: Pasta and Wine

Hills rich with vines, valleys, forests, medieval castles and roman churches. Villages, sprinkled through the countryside where artisan traditions, cuisine and food festivals still thrive has given the region of Monferrato a UNESCO world heritage site. An area in Northwest Italy, is still not as well known by tourists, however, its world famous wines, soft rolling hills, breathtaking sunsets, and historical heritage and the recent award from UNESCO are beginning to spark travellers’ curiosity. A Visit to the main town Casale Monferrato, with its huge 1000 year fortress, which dates back to 1000, and is a remarkable example of 15th centrury military architecture, especially the dungeons and towers. Also home to a lovely Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral. Piedmont enjoys an old distilling tradition, thanks to the enormous wealth of its vineyards that produce the quality fine red wine grape varieties, Barbera, Dolceto and Nebbiolo, as well as white types Piemonte Chardonnay and Muscat. Wine tasting with snacks. Piedmont also boasts its own pasta specialities such as the miniscule ravioli del plin and we will visit a local pasta factory to learn about the staple ingredient and Piedmontese cooking.

Day 03 - Turin: Elegance and Coffee

Turin, the essence of La dolce Vita, with a composed dignity befitting an elegant northern city. The alpine fringed city is passionate about Chocolate, football, the iconic Fiat cars and notable for its food. A city tour of Turin, takes you to the Piazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama and the Church of San Lorenzo and will give you your first impression of the magnificence of the city. You will then have time to take a stroll through the lively Baroque district, perhaps visit the Mole Antonelliana or the Museo Egizio, with one of the most impressive collction of Egyptian artefacts in the world, or Piazza Castello, the city's central square framed on all sides by grandiose buildings. Stop to savour a bicerin, a drink traditional hot drink, native to Turin, made from espresso coffee, drinking chocolate and milk, layered in a glass.

Day 04 - Vercelli and Alessandria: Risotto Rice Fields

Head to Vercelli, a town of Celtic origin. The Basilica of St. Andrew is th emost important monument of the town and one of the first examples of Gothic architecture in Italy. Also worth visiting is the Chiesa di San Christoforo, its interior walls covered with beautiful frescos by Gaudenzio Ferraris, a renaissance master. Vercelli is famed for its cultivation of rice, it is grown all across the region and considered the European Capital of Rice. Stop for a lunch featuring rice based products, and also try some rice based beer! Once you have tried these delicious treats, continue to Alessandria, a town filled with history. Originally founded in the 12th century, Alessandria is home to the Cittadella and many more impressive historical sites. A town also renowned for it manufacture of high quality hats.

Day 05 - Barolo: Black Grapes and Truffles

Meet a truffle hunter and his dog, venturing off for a walk in the woods in search of fine tubers. This will end with a sublime experience, getting to taste the precious truffles. Continue to the village of Barolo, a place that produces some of the finest wines in Italy and has done for more than four centuries. Round off the day with a wine tasting in the Regional Enconta in Barolo Castle.

Day 06 - Departure

Depart with transfers to your airport from your destination and then to your local drop off point.
