Assmannshausen Spätburgunder
Our host village, Assmannshausen, nestles between the Rhine riverbank and steeply sloped vineyards. The village is a rare red wine producing enclave within a region of Riesling, the local grape of preference being Spätburgunder, more commonly known as Pinot Noir. We enjoy a tasting at the hotel with a local vintner.

Assmannshausen's larger neighbour, Ruedesheim, has is one of the gems of the 'Romantic Rhine'. Wander up the quaint Drosselgasse from the riverside to village centre, maybe take the cable car through the vineyards or marvel at Siegfried's collection of self-playing music boxes. Our visit also includes a taste of the local Riesling with a wine producer.

Boppard by Boat
No visit to this part of the world would be complete without a scenic boat trip on the Rhine itself. Our destination is the Middle Rhine Valley's other gem, Boppard, on the opposite bank, where we taste the local wines before gently making our way back upstream to Assmannshausen.

Cochem & the Moselle Valley
Leaving Assmannshausen by rail, we enjoy great scenery once more from the train, switching to see the most scenic part of the Moselle Valley Line en route to Cochem, a wine town overlooked by its stunning castle. Our visit includes a Moselle winetasting too, of course!

Sparkling Wine at Eltville
Our final wine region is in the nearby Rheingau, where the town of 'Town of Roses and Sekt', Eltville, produces Germany's version of sparkling wine, Sekt. Once again, our visit includes a talk and tasting with a local producer of this fine product.
