Cheese, Cider, and the Famous Roman Baths

The county of Somerset, home to Cider and famous for its Cheddar Cheese. The beautiful, historical city of Bath is close by, and we stay in the seaside resort Weston-super-Mare, with its glorious stretch of beach and very impressive pier.

Bath

Bath is the largest city in Somerset, known for its Georgian and Roman splendour. The city is filled with history and stunning architecture, and the famous Roman baths bring thousands of tourists every year. Before the hot springs were converted into Roman baths they were used as a shrine to Sulis by the Celts, which was also known as Minerva.

Cheddar Gorge & Wells

Explore Britain’s biggest gorge, from the stunning stalactite caverns to the dramatic cliffs rising over 450ft. This world-famous site is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which reveals many hidden secrets including fascinating stories of our prehistoric ancestors.

The West Somerset Heritage Railway

Take a trip on The West Somerset Railway, a 22.75-mile heritage railway. It is the longest heritage railway in England, you will travel through the beautiful countryside taking a step back in time.

In a premier position on the Promenade, this family run hotel enjoys open views of the Grand Pier, Winter Gardens, and beach. A convenient location for shops, theatres, the new pier, and other local attractions which are just a short level walk away. Enjoy a drink in the bar looking at sea views or relax in the lounge. Entertainment is provided several evenings weekly. The newly refurbished (2016) restaurant serves ‘eat as much as you like’ buffet breakfast and table d’hôte dinner prepared by long-established chef Vincent. The well-appointed ensuite guest rooms, many with sea view and balcony, have TV, telephone, hairdryer, and hospitality tray. A lift serves all floors. (56 guest rooms – 11 ground floor)
