Jane Austen was born on 16th December 1775 in the small village of Steventon, North Hampshire. This is where Jane spent the first 25 years of her life. Following on from this, she moved to Chawton Village to live with her mother and sister, Cassandra. Jane passed away at the age of 41, and was laid to rest in Winchester Cathedral. Most of her literature was inspired by nearby manors, gardens and houses - many of which you can visit today. On this tour, you will travel through the life of Jane Austen and visit these wonderful sites.

Jane Austen's House

Jane Austen's House is the most treasured site dedicated to Jane Austen in the world. This is where she resided for many years and wrote 6 beloved novels, including Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. The house is now a museum which showcases many of Austen's treasures.

Chawton House

Chawton House is an Elizabethan manor house, which once belonged to Jane Austen's brother, Edward. This Grade II listed manor now hosts a unique collection of women's literature. Explore a guided tour, and perhaps visit the delightful gardens to follow the footsteps of Jane Austen.

Mompesson House

Mompesson House appeared in the 1995 Oscar-winning film, Sense and Sensibility, where the house was the London home of Mrs Jennings. This 18th century town house is located in the heart of Salisbury's historic Cathedral Close. This beautiful house is now owned by the National Trust.

Salisbury Cathedral

Home to Britain's tallest spire & the originial Magna Carta, Salisbury Cathedral is a must see. Jane Austen referenced Salisbury Cathedral in many of her works, including Northanger Abbey. At the cathedral, you will join a group tour to learn more about the history & heritage of the cathedral.

Winchester Cathedral
