Istanbul Tulip Festival

Join us on a wonderful tour through Istanbul, visiting the beautiful Tulip Festival alongside a selection of historic and cultural wonders.

Did you know – Tulips are native to Central Asia? Many people assume that tulips are from Northern Europe, however they were introduced here in the 16th century. Turkish people were among the first to cultivate tulips, beginning around 1000AD. Since this date, tulips have held symbolic significance in Turkish culture and because of this, Istanbul hosts an annual festival to celebrate this.

Your 5-day visit to Istanbul will allow you to explore the beauty of the tulip festival, whilst also dedicating time to visit many of Istanbul’s historic and cultural wonders, including the Bosphorus Strait, Topkapi Palace, Hippodrome of Constantinople and the famous Blue Mosque.

Itinerary/Excursions

Day 01

Depart the UK to travel to Turkiye. Welcome to Istanbul! You will be transferred to your hotel and the remainder of the day is yours free to explore at your own pace. Your tour guide will host a welcome dinner either at a local restaurant or at the hotel, where you'll have the opportunity to meet both your guide and fellow travelers.

Day 02

The day begins with breakfast at the hotel, before you transfer to Sultanahmet Square. Enjoy some free time to take in the historic surroundings and capture memorable photos in the heart of old Istanbul. Next, head to the Topkapi Palace gardens, just steps away from the square. Stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds, especially vibrant during tulip season, and soak in the atmosphere of this former imperial residence. Continue to the nearby Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, located in the historic Ibrahim Pasha Palace. Explore its fascinating collection of calligraphy, carpets, manuscripts, and ethnographic exhibits that showcase centuries of rich cultural and religious heritage. Afterwards, you'll have free time for lunch. Take this opportunity to sample some delicious Turkish cuisine at your own pace. Following lunch, visit Gulhane Park, one of Istanbul’s oldest and most scenic parks. Spend about an hour enjoying its tulip gardens and tranquil walking paths. The final stop of the day is the spectacular Emirgan Park, one of the main venues of the Istanbul Tulip Festival. Dedicate at least 2 hours to explore its colorful tulip displays, wooded areas, and peaceful viewpoints overlooking the Bosphorus.

Day 03

After breakfast, embark on a full-day tour to explore Istanbul’s most iconic sites. Begin at the St. Sophia Museum, renowned for its rich history and stunning Byzantine architecture. Just across the way, visit the iconic Blue Mosque, famous for its six minarets and beautiful blue tiles. Next, head to the grand Topkapi Palace, once the residence of Ottoman sultans, and explore the Harem and the Byzantine gem, Hagia Irene.  Wander through the ancient Hippodrome, once the social and sporting center of Constantinople. Around midday, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near Sultanahmet, offering a taste of authentic Turkish cuisine in a charming setting.  In the afternoon, join us for a 2-hour Tulip Motif Tile Painting & Contour Drawing Workshop, where you'll explore the beauty of tulip designs through hands-on art. We’ll start with a brief introduction to tulip motifs in Turkish culture, followed by a guided contour drawing session. Then, you'll sketch and paint your own tulip design on ceramic tiles using traditional techniques. The workshop wraps up with time to share your work, ask questions, and take your tile home as a unique keepsake.

Day 04

After breakfast, join a guided tour to one of the most beautiful sights in the world, the Bosphorus Strait separating two continents - Europe and Asia. This tour offers an unforgettable experience, starting with a scenic Bosphorus Cruise that showcases the stunning waterfront.  You’ll visit the vibrant Spice Bazaar, where the air is filled with exotic aromas, and the historic Rustem Pasha Mosque, known for its exquisite tile work. The tour also includes a stop at the opulent Beylerbeyi Palace, a symbol of Ottoman grandeur, and a drive across the iconic Bosphorus Bridge, connecting Europe and Asia.  Finally, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Istanbul from Camlica Hill, making this tour a perfect blend of history, culture, and breathtaking scenery.
