1066 Country - Battle & Hastings
A momentous year for England, 1066 marks the Battle of Hastings. As the Duke of Normandy and King Harold fought the infamous battle, the last successful invasion of England took place. The battlefield remains remarkably intact, giving an accurate glimpse back to the day over 1000 years ago.
Bateman's has an intriguing history, orgininally completed around 1634 for a prosperous ironmaster, it was then used as a farmhouse after the fall of the Sussex iron industry. Rudyard Kipling and his wife fell in love with the house in 1902, and he stayed there until his death in 1936.
