Cheddar Gorge & Wells
Cheddar Gorge is a limestone gorge in the Mendip Hills, near the village of Cheddar, Somerset. The gorge is the site of the Cheddar show caves, where Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be 9,000 years old, was found in 1903. Cheddar Gorge is not only one of Britain's most spectacular natural landmarks, but also a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the newly formed Mendip Hills National Landscape. The Gorge boasts awe-inspiring cliffs and extraordinary subterranean stalactite show caves, plus many fascinating secrets about our prehistoric ancestors. In Wells, maybe visit the cathedral which has been described as “the most poetic of the English Cathedrals, set in the medieval heart of England’s smallest city.

Wookey Hole Caves are a series of limestone caverns, a show cave and tourist attraction in the village of Wookey Hole on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills near Wells in Somerset. The River Axe flows through the cave. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for both biological and geological reasons.
