The Edinburgh Castle Esplanade is the spectacular home of the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.  The story began seven decades ago and was inspired by a simple show called “something about a soldier” performed in 1949 at the Ross Bandstand, which is still there in Princes Street.  From a modest event in a park to today’s global showcase at the Castle.

    The world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a global event, performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands, as well as artistic performance teams on the Esplande of Edinburgh Castle. Held each August, as one of the Edinburgh Festivals, Tattoo celebrates the power of connection with a spectacular combination of music, dance and military precision. The performers are leading armed forces and military performers from throughout the world, set against a magnificent backdrop.
