A Trip to Terres de l'Ebre
At the end of September, Shannon travelled to Manchester Airport to embark on a 3-night whistle stop tour through Terres de l'Ebre. Often an overlooked region in Catalunya, this area boasts incredible food/drink and a plethora of bird and wildlife.

Shannon at Horta de Sant Joan
My 4-day venture to Terres de l'Ebre with the Catalunya Tourism Board was a true feast of the senses. Throughout my tour, I enjoyed wine tasting on a small boat, an e-bike tour through the Ebro Delta and Sake tasting at a local rice brewery.
Alongside enjoying some delightful food and drink, I had the opportunity to spot some rare birdlife, which often rest in the delta in the Autumn months.

Tour Highlights
Musclarium
Located in the heart of Alfacs Bay, the unique location of Musclarium allows for wonderful nautical and gastronomic experiences. A water taxi will take you on a 15 minute journey from the harbour to the Musclarium, where you'll be meeted by your host.
After a short presentation, you can enjoy a sumptuous 7-course lunch, or a more relaxed tasting depending on your preference.
The oysters and mussels are the specialty here. As they are from this bay, you can ensure the quality and freshness of the produce are of a very high caliber.
MonNatura Delta

This remarkable centre is located in the heart of the delta. Bird watching, traditional fishing and visiting the salt plains are some of the interesting features to this centre.
On my visit, I was fortunate enough to witness over 100 flamingos resting in the bay. MonNatura Delta s a must see if birdwatching is of interest to you.
Wine Tasting at Gandesa Cathedral
Known locally as one of the 7 wonders of Catalunya, the Gandesa Wine Cathedral was commissioned by Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí. The architecture alone of the cathedral is incredibly beautiful.
After a short tour through the cathedral, you can enjoy a tasing of 3 wines paired with olives and bread. The experience was a true delight and a must-see if you enjoy both architecture and gastronomy.
Kayaking along the Ebro River
It was a wonderful experience to be connected with nature on a crisp, sunny morning. Kayaking along the Ebro River was serene, offering beautiful views over the mountains nearby.
Along my journey I spotted fish jumping out of the river and many different bird species.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Terres de l'Ebre offers a unique contrast to its nearby metropolis, Barcelona. The area is pristine, quiet, laid-back and very slow paced. If you enjoy nature, wildlife and relaxation, then this may be the place for you.
