Days 1 & 2
Coach pick up from local joining points and travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing. Overnight in Orleans with dinner. Continue to Carcassonne for 5 nights at the Sowell Les Chevaliers.
Carcassonne - Guided tour of the famous walled city, the largest in Europe with its city walls still intact. Included is a visit to Chateau Comtal (Count's Castle) a medieval castle with the city walls. The castle was restored in 1853 by the aarchitect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. The rest of the day is at leisure. In the evening dinner is a typical 2 course dinner including Cassoulet in a local "Maison du Cassoulet".
Canal du Midi - enjoy a commentated cruise, with a picnic stop, on the Canal du Midi, France’s longest and oldest canal, the Canal du Midi is both a feat of civil engineering and a popular sightseeing destination. Built by engineer Pierre-Paul Riquet in the late 17th century, the 150-mile (240-kilometer) waterway connects the Mediterranean with the Atlantic Ocean via the Garonne Canal. Duration approximatley 2hr 30min. Rest of the day at leisure.
Le Train Rouge - On board the legendary Red Train, discover the Red Train Valley and enjoy a whole country nestled between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. From Rivesaltes in Roussillon, to Axat in the Aude, the Vallée du Train Rouge has a thousand and one treasures that are worth a visit.
You will be seduced by spectacular landscapes, where orchards and vineyards give way to the steep foothills of the Corbières and the deep forests of the upper valley. You will explore charming villages, meet the inhabitants with their rocky and sunny accent, visit Roman remains, chapels and hermitages from the Middle Ages or the majestic castles of Quéribus and Puilaurens.
Chateau de Caux et Sauzens - Located to the west of Carcassonne the vineyard spreads over more than 45 hectares. Enjoy a tour of the vineyard followed by a tasting of 8 wines. Duration approximately 1hr 30mins. Return to Carcassonne with the rest of the day at leisure.
Days 7 & 8
Depart Carcassonne - travel north to Limoges to stay overnight at the Kyriad Atrium before returning on the Eurotunnel crossing.
