A superb annual spring flower exhibition in the park and the greenhouses of the castle of Grand Bigard offers an unforgettable flower experience. The park of 14 hectares incorporates nearly all spring bulb varieties and the castle's gardeners have planted by hand more than one million bulbs. Special attention goes to the tulips, with almost 400 varieties, although hyacinths and daffodils are also well represented.
Over the border in the Netherlands we visit world-famous Keukenhof, "the most beautiful spring garden in the world", open just a few weeks each year, where superb swathes of tulips and other spring flowers carpet the countryside with kaleidoscopic colour. The world's largest flower garden promises fantastic floral exhibitions that will live long in the memory, and there are lots of opportunities for refreshment as well as beautiful walks and footpaths.
